More to explore: Mallorca's Hidden Gems

Writer: milapetrukmilapetruk

What's a hidden gem? Hidden gem is something that is equally interesting as the famous spot. Hidden gem is something that will not disappoint the tourist and may even cause more interest for travelers who have already explored the standard sightseeing 'to do' list. Almost every destination has hidden gems. Mallorca is full of such spots. And that is why to encourage our readers to explore the island more we are covering Mallorca's hidden gems in the next few posts.

To make the discovery even more interesting, we are now providing the list of famous tourist attractions together with the hidden gems analogues for them grouped by the same type of tourist experience. So, shall we start?

Palma Cathedral. Although nothing can be compared to this amazing spot in Palma, we also recommend taking a look at Pollenca's cathedral and the church behind right on the hill. Not less instagrammable place due to its long staircase that leads to the church and makes the building look as stunning as Palma's cathedral. The church dates back to the 18th century and boasts its amazing sculptures and artwork.

Formentor. Just behind the peninsula of Formentor is the peninsula of Alcudia. Not less famous for its views, if you drive to Mal Pas, the road is amazing with a few stops just like Formentor and one great viewpoint at Victoria's monastery. The greatest beach to see here is the Coll Baix, where you have to walk just like in Formentor but the walk is definitely worthy of itself.

Soller and Port de Soller. Just on the other side of the island, you can find Port de Pollenca and the Alcudia old town which can be even more interesting. At least the walk around the Port of Pollenca will definitely calculate more steps and types of views as the bay is bigger. Together with the old pine trees, the atmosphere in Pollenca is more like Nice or Cannes, while Port Soller is a just like short and crowded version of Monaco.

Palma Aquarium. One can believe there is only one aquarium in Mallorca and it is located in Palma, while the more interesting version of this experience is located in Ses Salines on the south of the island. Aquarium Cabrera not only boasts a lot of species from the sea but is also a part of the Visitor's center of Ses Salines where you can also, beside the aquarium, see the salt pools and other local attractions.

Playa de Muro beach. The most famous beach in Mallorca for its long sandy coastline, Playa de Muro is one of the top attractions for UK tourists visiting the island. However, an interesting alternative is the Es Trenc beach on the south of the island, not less beautiful and with amazing turquoise waters and long coastline. Please mind that unlike Playa de Muro, Es Trenc locations may require some walking from the parking to the beach.

Cala Tuent (view from the road viewpoint above).

Sa Calobra. The road is surely like nothing else in the world, incomparable and beautiful. But in terms of the road experience, you can also try driving down to the Port of Valdemossa. The road is also very beautiful and worth considering. As to the destination which is Torrent de Pareis, Cala Tuent which is nearby is another great alternative of a destination, less crowded in summer and with amazing beach for sunbathing and swimming. Also much better alternative if you are travelling with small children.

We've covered here 6 main attractions, we will cover more in the next posts. Remember to sign up and soon you will see how little of Mallorca we all know :)
