Palma Center by Foot: two great routes

Our favorite routes to discover center of Palma de Mallorca

Here is how we advise to uncover the magnificence of Palma de Mallorca:

This is a very practical post. We will shortly describe the green and blue routes that we advise to everyone who wants to get acquainted with Palma de Mallorca and see the best of its center. Both routes are recommended for summer and winter and entail stops that enable some rest. We advise taking convenient shoes as the length is in both cases over between 3 and 4 km. Don't forget sunglasses and camera :)

Green route. Although it is little longer than the blue one, this route can be a good half-day walk. If together with some shopping and lunch-dinner time, you can spend your whole day in Palma. The walk itself is slightly over 4 km. Most of the trip is on the sun, but you will spend the first part near the sea, so it should not be too hot.

We start at the parking lot under the Cathedral where you reach from Paseo Maritimo driving towards the center and port. As you leave your car, you exit in front of the Cathdral and would surely take a few shots and selfies in front of a nice sea-water lake. This is a postcard introduction into Palma de Mallorca and a good starting point. Then you head to the sea, cross the road and take the steps up to take a look at the yachts. After that, there is a nice 1.8 km walk along the coastline with viewing the boats of all types and sizes. As you reach the end of the passage zone, you can cross the street on the traffic light and head backwards along the other side of the road. When you reach the park, cross the street and head up the pont to the bridge. The park is nice, too. Cool shades of trees with hide you from the heat for a while. Then as you cross the bridge, you turn right and enter the modern art museum area. There is a cafe where you can relax and take a sip of cold drink or just sit on the rocky wall and look at the coastline passage from the top. Splendid views, believe me!

After this short break we dive into Latin quarter. You will see a gate to the left, simply enter and walk along the streets leaning to the coastline. Then you will be back to the park near the Cathedral. Turn left and head to where you see an avenue of platan trees. This is my favorite place in Palma, Avinguda de Born. From ther you turn left after the Bar Bosch, and get lost in the small streets heading towards Placa Major, which is a typical baroque square with shops and cafes around. From there you take the long Carrer de Colom and follow the signs towards the Cathedral. The entrance to the Cathedral is on the left, and as you leave the Cathedral stop for a while to enjoy the view from the top to where you see your whole route of the day. Then you take the stairs down and head back to the parking lot.

The blue route is smaller in length, a little over 3 km, and starts from the parking lot on Passeig de Mallorca. As you exit the parking heading to Jaime III, you follow the street with shops and find yourself in a wonderful hub of Palma life near Avinguda de Born. You follow the street as it goes up to the left, curving slightly, and pass few buildings with impressive architecture. These are built by Gaudi, famous surrealist architest from Catalunya, Spain. Then you turn left with the street and see another wonderful avenue, maybe less chick compared to Born, but with those amazing detailed decorated windows, balconies, walls. This is Rambla, or a place where things happen. You can buy flowers there and some souvenirs. As Rambla finishes, take the street up right crossing the street near Es Rebost Cafe where you can stop for a coffee and snack. Great place to spot the whole Rambla.

Then you just walk straight to Place de Espanya, where you can shop at a bigger Corte des Ingles and some other shops. This is also a plce where the railway to other parts of the island leaves. When you head back, take other route and follow Carrer de Sant Miguel. You will then find yourself in Placa Major, and from there, unlike the green route, turn right at the end of Carrer de Colom and walk down the center to reach Avinguda de Born. From there, take hide in the shades of the park near Cathedral, go up to look again how Palma Bay looks from there, and slowly follow the Passeo Maritimo, but from the right side, along the palms, not the coast. The road will start lifting up to the pont and park, follow it to the parking on Passeig de Mallorca.

Enjoy Palma as we do, share these routes and don't forget to add #amenamar #amenamallorca and #amenamarhotel hashtags :)
