Pet friendliness is like a... wind?

Mallorca is claimed to be pet friendly island. You may think so, looking at those natural spots, wild beaches and small bays, beautiful rocky shores and calm village cafes. But this is only an impression which quickly grows into disappointment once you arrive here with your good four leg friend.

Most beaches in Mallorca don't accept people with pets. You will be very very surprised, no kidding! Even those hidden beaches where you have to walk a lot of meters to reach from the parking will have the signs that pets are not allowed.

Very few places like Cala Mondrago have the flexibility of allowing you to be with your pet in the park and where the rocks are, and not on the sandy beach. Others don't allow pet access to the shore even where there are completely rocky shores.

When you look for where to relax with your pet, the rule of thumb is to take a look at a diagonal line between Palma and Alcudia, because this is where most of the pet friendly beaches are located. Many of them around Palma, others around Pollenca and Alcudia.

There are some of them. Good news! :)

You just have to know the spots. And then you won't be disappointed when arriving with your friend to Sa Calobra and realizing that the beach is not accessible with dogs.

Another important thing to note is that pets are also not allowed in many other natural spots where there is supposed to be a crows of people. Somehow the Tourist Board of Mallorca intends to avoid the crossing of dogs and people. Perhaps they had bad experiences in the past, which is weird, because all over Europe and North America you can walk a dog to literally any viewpoint, lighthouse etc.

All shots are dog-free as well. Even those where logically you can come with a dog, where the dog is not supposed to damage anything. Spanish government's character sometimes grows from precaution to panic. It does not mean we are totally against it, just that it is rather surprising for an island where the wild goats walk literally everywhere without a leash :)

Anyhow, there are hotels welcoming your four leg friends like Amena Mar where we welcome dogs, cats and other pets and we'll be happy to see you travelling with your little special someone! :)
