I was putting myself away from the blog for some time. And I was thinking how I would start it again this year. What should I say? What voice do the people traveling to Mallorca want to hear? What message should I be set to deliver?
And then I realized that people like us are very important now. Not just tour operators who take your money and send you somewhere you are not safe about. Not just the airlines who force you into mask wearing but then tell you that the passenger next to you was Covid infected. Not the numerous hotel chains with trainings about the importance of Covid regulations to their staff, but missing the general logic of protecting their clients later. We as these hotel owners who live with the situation everyday are really important now.
You wonder why? Because all of them - tour operators, airlines, hotel chains with their standards - fail. They can't meet their breakeven cost expectations, financial plans, so they won't even try. And they don't understand the importance of just the ray of hope for those who want to re-start their normal travel life again. Everywhere all over Mallorca hotels and restaurants waving this 'SOS TURISMO' banner. I understand there can be some bigger hotels who really can't open unless there's a crowd of tourists. But what about smaller hotels, bars, cafes? Why not even try a little? If you are open, people come. This is what my husband always keeps telling me that the uttermost important law of earning with business is being open to your clients. Closed businesses are forgotten. New businesses regain their past clients. And this is the law of life.
In travel business what you give to people is the overall emotional experience. Guests arrive to our hotel and happily look outside to Toni's place and admire the fact that the restaurants are open and they can walk along the promenade and get a drink at a café. This is so simple yet not fulfilled in Mallorca in many places. Palma is half-closed, too. Where should we tell our guests to go then? We don't want them disappointed from their trip.
So re-tripping Mallorca, re-tripping the destination with opening shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels is very important. Little businesses can survive less clients. But less clients can't survive the absence of businesses. They won't come, even if you decide you're open tomorrow. Tourists re-trip to Greece, Italy, Turkey. Mediterranean has a lot to offer, ultimately.
Please, dear business owners, help the tourists re-trip. Present them with the feeling of vacation they'd lost last year, and you will see more of them coming.
As to us... well, we'll take our important role this year as re-tripping promoters of Mallorca. We still believe in better tomorrow, and we will do our best this year to help our clients plan, organize and enjoy their vacation in Mallorca to greatest extent possible!
